Library, Art & Archives

One of the most important botanical reference sources in the world, Library, Art & Archives contains more than half a million items, including books, botanical illustrations, photographs, letters and manuscripts, periodicals, biographies and maps. During the 150 years of the library's history, material has been acquired by gift, purchase and exchange. Over 90 languages are represented, making the library a global resource for plant science, research and conservation. Towards the end of 2009, we will be opening an extension to the Herbarium, Library, Art & Archives. Our new accommodation will provide much-needed additional and secure storage for our collections, as well as a dedicated reading room for visitors to Library, Art & Archives.

Please note that the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew library catalogue will be unavailable on Tuesday 20th January 2009 due to essential maintenance work. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. You may find it helpful to know that Kew's library catalogue can also be searched via the Copac Union Catalogue and that this service will be available on this date.

The present library, officially opened in 1969
